A candidate’s JEE Main Rank is determined by their raw score, which is then normalized into a percentile score. The final ranking is based on a specific set of ranking criteria. Based on past trends, an estimated table is provided below showing the expected percentile scores corresponding to certain raw scores.

JEE Main 2026 Marks vs Percentile vs Rank
The final JEE Main Rank is determined by combining the candidate’s raw marks, the normalized percentile scores, and the established ranking criteria. Based on historical data, an approximate table illustrating the relationship between raw scores and expected percentile scores is provided below.

🎯 JEE Main 2026 Ranking Criteria: Tie-Breaker and Factors Affecting Your Rank
JEE Main 2026 scores are converted into percentile scores to ensure fairness across multiple shifts with varying difficulty levels. A percentile represents the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or below a particular candidate in a session, with the top scorer receiving 100 percentile.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) calculates these percentiles up to 7 decimal places and uses them to prepare the final merit list and All India Rank (AIR). In cases where two or more candidates have the same overall percentile, a tie-breaking process is applied.
⚖️ Tie-Breaking Criteria
If two or more candidates have identical percentile scores, ranking is decided in the following order:
- Higher Mathematics percentile score
- Higher Physics percentile score
- Higher Chemistry percentile score
- Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally across all subjects
- Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally in Mathematics
- Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally in Physics
- Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally in Chemistry
👉 If the tie still remains unresolved after all these steps, candidates are assigned the same rank.
