🎯 JEE Main 2026 Ranking Criteria: Tie-Breaker and Factors Affecting Your Rank

JEE Main 2026 scores are converted into percentile scores to ensure fairness across multiple shifts with varying difficulty levels. A percentile represents the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or below a particular candidate in a session, with the top scorer receiving 100 percentile.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) calculates these percentiles up to 7 decimal places and uses them to prepare the final merit list and All India Rank (AIR). In cases where two or more candidates have the same overall percentile, a tie-breaking process is applied.

⚖️ Tie-Breaking Criteria

If two or more candidates have identical percentile scores, ranking is decided in the following order:

  • Higher Mathematics percentile score
  • Higher Physics percentile score
  • Higher Chemistry percentile score
  • Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally across all subjects
  • Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally in Mathematics
  • Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally in Physics
  • Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally in Chemistry

👉 If the tie still remains unresolved after all these steps, candidates are assigned the same rank.
